Security officials at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport had to deal with a strange case over the weekend, when they found a wheelchair-bound man along with a 40-year-old woman who claimed to be his aunt attempting to enter Israel illegally.

The 38-year-old man and woman arrived on a flight from Georgia, claimed that this man had come to Israel for urgent medical treatment following a serious stroke that had left him paralysed.

Officials became suspicious because the two had no hotel reservations, but carried large amounts of cash.

During questioning, it emerged that the two knew little about each other.

The immigration officials suspect that the two strangers teamed up in Georgia and attempted to enter Israel together illegally.

When officials detained the couple and sent them to a cell in the airport before returning them to Georgia, the man got out of his wheelchair and walked unaided down the stairs.
