Sweelinck Orchestra performs in Tbilisi

The J. Pzn Sweelinck Orchestra of the University of Amsterdam established in 1878 will perform in Tbilisi today as a part of the City Hall’s project, Under Tbilisi Sky.
The orchestra will perform Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen without words.
This will be the first time the composition is performed in Georgia. The Sweelinck Orchestra will also perform some Georgian compositions, Tbilisi City Hall said.
The concert will start at 9 p.m. in Vake Park and is open to the public free of charge.
The project Under Tbilisi Sky is a new cultural and art platform by Tbilisi City Hall which aims to make cultural events publicly accessible and create a vibrant cultural life in the city.

Tbilisi City Hall is taking action to develop a vibrant night-time economy in the capital city of Georgia. Night-time economy is a category of economic activity that occurs after 5 p.m. and includes dining, nightlife, arts, music, theatre, entertainment, festivals, events, activities and tourist attractions that are open at night.
Following in the footsteps of many European cities, Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi plans to revive nightlife and the night time economy of the capital which is a significant contributor to a city’s economy.
As a part of the larger Check in Georgia project, which covers a series of cultural events with the support of the Georgian government, TAF will host more than 25 galleries and 35 independent artists from all over the world.
