The Ministry of Internal Affairs has arrested two individuals in Tbilisi for the exploitation of minors and human trafficking.

Investigators uncovered a scheme in which a couple, born in 1957 and 1959, were illegally exploiting two minors born in 2010.

The investigation was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Labor as well as with the Prosecutor’s Office.

Investigators say that the pair threatened two girls and forced them into begging for money around traffic lights on Pekini Street, as well as subway entrances, passes and in the subway.

The offence committed by them is punishable by 17 to 20 years.

The MIA says they will continue investigating trafficking cases involving adolescents and will "react strictly” even if the victim and offender are close relatives.
