Amendments made to the law On General Education has entered into force in Georgia, strengthening security in schools and preventing offences among schoolchildren.
As Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the goal of the amendments was to provide adequate reaction to incidents that take place in schools by increasing the independence of school resource officers’ activities.
The installation of external and internal perimeter video surveillance cameras in the school building shall be mandatory.
Also, the amendments stipulate that from now on school resource officers will be appointed by the head of the resource officers’ service and not by the director of the school.
The resource officers will be obliged to prevent and deescalate conflicts in schools.
