President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili has officially confirmed the nomination of Mamuka Bakhtadze for the country’s premiership.
The president of Georgia has the ability to reject a candidate put forward by the parliamentary majority.
"Under Article 80 of the Georgian constitution, Mamuka Bakhtadze, put forward by the parliamentary majority, will be confirmed as a candidate for the premiership”, says the presidential decree.
Mamuka Bakhtadze, 36, was nominated by the Georgian Dream ruling party as a candidate for the office of prime minister after former PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili resigned due to controversies on fundamental issues with the ruling party and its head, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Mamuka Bakhtadze has seven days to form a new government and present it to the parliament. If the parliament approves Mamuka Bakhtadze and his choice of ministers and their action plan, the new government will set to work.
