"We won’t stop until Georgia’s sovereign state is returned its territories and the Russian occupation comes to an end”, Congressman Gerald Connolly, Co-chair of the Georgia Caucus of the US Congress, said in his keynote address at an event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia.
He said Georgia is exemplary with its independence, political pluralism and democratic governance gained in a neighborhood where autocracy and authoritarianism have taken root frequently.
"In this regard, Georgia has showed an exceptional courage considering its big neighbor, Russia’s, feelings. We stand by Georgia in the US Congress and support the country. We're excited by your courage and have formed a strong group of supporters at the congress to stand by your side," Gerald Connolly said adding he would once again confirm his position about Georgia at the NATO meeting in Poland this week.
"We are proud that we held the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Georgia which is a very important symbol and message not only for us but also for the alliance and Georgia’s neighborhood”, Connolly added.
The event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first Democratic Republic of Georgia was held at the US congress attended by the PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Robert Goodlatte, Eliot Engel from House Foreign Affairs Committee and Members of Congress David Price, Duncan D. Hunter, and Mark Sanford.
