Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili is set to meet with United States (US) Vice President Mike Pence at the White House today.

Kvirikashvili is paying a four-day working visit to the US upon the invitation by Pence.

Today’s meeting will focus on the agenda of the US-Georgia Strategic Partnership Charter.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani says that the meeting will be very important because of several factors.

"The Georgian Prime Minister and US Vice President will meet just after the US President signs the budget, in which the occupation of the Georgian territories is stressed for the first time on the legislative level”, Zalkaliani said.
"The Georgian Prime Minister’s visit also follows the address by congressmen to the President. All of these creates a very good atmosphere for negotiations”.

Zalkaliani added that meeting with high-ranking US officials and discussing the occupation of Georgian territory as well as the Euro-Atlantic integration process of Georgia is politically important.

"These are the directions where the support from the US is very important”, Zakaliani said.

Tomorrow on May 9 Kvirikahsvili will meet with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. On the same day he will also visit the US Senate to meet with heads and representatives of different commissions.

This will be followed by Kvirikashvili’s meeting with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross on May 10.

Meetings are also scheduled with representatives of experts and the non-governmental sector.
