Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili is paying a two-day visit to Iran this weekend to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting with Iran's Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, Kvirikashvili discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation between the two countries from trade-economic and energy sectors, through education and high technology.

We express our readiness to avoid any obstacles that the representatives of the private sector may ever face and thus make economic cooperation between our countries more feasible”, Kvirikashvili said.

Jahangiri said Iran was the first country that recognized Georgia’s independence [from the Soviet Union back in 1991]. He said Georgia and Iran have a positive record of trade-economic cooperation and praised Georgia’s investment environment.

Iran's parliament Speaker Ali Larijani also welcomed Georgia’s reforms that lead to good investment conditions for Iranian businessmen. He said "we will be glad to use these investment opportunities and further develop trade cooperation”.

Transport, agriculture, infrastructure, industry, education, innovations and high technology were also among the issues Iran and Georgia plan to expand their ties on the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic cooperation.

Prime Minister Kvirikashvili’s visit to Iran was announced after he met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tbilisi last Tuesday. Kvirikashvili will leave the country later tomorrow.
