Georgian PM to visit Iran this weekend

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili will visit Iran this weekend to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

The visit, planned for April 22-23, was announced after Kvirikashvili met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tbilisi this afternoon.

The pair said that besides the 25-year-long diplomatic relations Georgia and Iran are connected by very effective cooperation formats. They stressed the increasing trade and economic relations, which, in Kvirikashvili’s words, is very important for the Georgian government.

Today’s meeting also discussed cooperation in the fields of transport and energy, agriculture and infrastructure, and science and high technologies.

Kvirikashvili said he was thankful for Iran as it sully supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
