UN Population Fund’s Regional Director visits Georgia

Alanna Armitage, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Director, is paying a four-day visit to Georgia.

Visiting Georgia’s eastern region of Kakheti today, Armitage will meet with the State Attorney - Governor in the Kakheti Region, Irakli Kadagishvili, to discuss further cooperation.

Under the United Nations Joint Programme for Gender Equality, the UNFPA works to strengthen youth in Kakheti, promote gender equality and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.

During her visit Kakheti Armitage will also attend a training session for fathers run by UNFPA Georgia’s MenCare campaign, an initiative launched last July.

As of April, the campaign will also cover the Kakheti region and promote the societal and familial benefits of "men as equitable, nonviolent fathers and caregivers in order to achieve family well-being, gender equality and better health for mothers, fathers, and children.”

Also during this first official visit, Armitage will meet with the representatives of legislative and executive branches of the Georgian Government, UN Agencies and partner organisations. She will also participate in the high-level meeting for Maternal and Newborn and Reproductive Health Priorities in Georgia.
