Georgian Sinfonietta invites celebrated artists for Tbilisi concert

Internationally acclaimed violinist Sandrine Cantoreggi and conductor George Babuadze will join the Georgian Sinfonietta orchestra to entertain audiences at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia next week.

The two highly regarded performers will team up with the Tbilisi-based orchestra to perform at the Conference Hall of the venue on March 27.

The evening’s program will feature the Bach Concerto for Two Violins and Orchestra, the Mendelssohn Concerto for Violin and String Orchestra and Two Nordic Melodies for String Orchestra by Edvard Grieg.

Born in France, Cantoreggi received her musical education at the Luxembourg Conservatoire and Belgium’s Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

She was the last student of the internationally recognised Belgian violinist Carlo Van Neste and has performed under the direction of famous violinists and conductors including Yehudi Menuhin and Vladimir Spivakov.

Cantoreggi was awarded the Order of Merit of the Duchy of Luxembourg by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg in 2009 in recognition of her artistic work.

Born in Tbilisi, George Babuadze studied at the capital city’s Music School No. 3 and the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, graduating from the latter in 1985.

He worked as concertmaster and teacher at the Conservatoire and led the orchestra of the Batumi State Opera Theatre as conductor.

Babuadze joined the Orchestra Guido Cantelli in Milan, Italy as violinist from 1996-2001 before moving to Japan.

He has worked as concertmaster of the Osaka Symphony Orchestra and the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001 while also teaching violin at the Tokyo University of the Arts.

Cantoreggi and Babuadze will be joining musicians of the Georgian Sinfonietta, also known as the Tbilisi State Chamber Orchestra.

Founded in 2008, the orchestra has performed at venues in Georgia and abroad, including the Chamber Hall of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Munich High School of Music and Theatre in Germany.

The band has also appeared at events including the Tbilisi Wind Festival and Tbilisi Chamber Music Festival.

In addition, the orchestra is the founder of the Tbilisi Baroque Festival, the first ever baroque music festival in the Caucasus.
