Emerging Georgian filmmaker Ana Kvichidze has concluded the shooting for her maiden work Delgma, with first photos from the set released online before the short film premieres later this year.

The filming of the 13-minute production has been taking place in village Atsana in western Georgia’s Guria region.

The shooting has involved a cast of Georgian actors led by Nini Tskitishvili, Irakli Kiknadze and Keti Dugadze in main roles.

Released by producers 17/07-BIT Studio, the photographs show the actors and the crew working in the rainy subtropical region’s village — an appropriate pick for the film’s title, a local word for unrelenting rain season.

The continuous rain is also central to the script of Kvichidze’s work.

The plot follows Nano, 21, who goes back to her family’s countryside house for the first time since childhood and is welcomed with the ceaseless rains. As she arrives in the village, Nano finds the locals in the time-honoured custom of casting spells to bring back the sun.

The script develops with the young girl taking part in the rituals in attempts to begin rebuilding her past connections with the place, however the only relatable person in the village is her childhood friend Uta, in turn infatuated with a leader of local girls.

Delgma is the debut work by Kvichidze, who graduated from the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgian State University.

Produced by Mariam Bitsadze of 17/07-BIT Studio, the film’s production is supported by the Georgian National Film Centre.

The completed short is scheduled to be submitted to a number of international festivals throughout the year before its planned premiere in late 2017.
