The State to partially cover utility fees for families living near occupied territories

Families living near Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories will receive 200-lari vouchers to cover natural gas expenses, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, Georgia’s State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality said after today’s Government Meeting.

Tsikhelashvili said 2,378,800 lari would be equally distributed to all the 11,894 families living along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with Georgia’s breakaway region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

The State Minister said that although most villages in the region have received access to gas, there are some 728 families who have not.

However, she said, they will also receive 200-GEL voucher to cover the expenses of the alternative heating they are currently using, which in most cases is firewood.

Tsikhelashvili said the Government of Georgia has been assisting families living along the ABL during the winter period in previous years as well.
