Prime Minister highlights Audit Office’s role in parliamentary system

Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has attended the presentation of the State Audit Office Institutional Strengthening project, highlighting the importance of the agency in the move to the parliamentary republic model.

The State Audit Office is a major institutional lever for parliament to ensure good governance, transparency, effective using and spending of the budget money and of course for effective control of state bodies,” Kvirikashvili said.

The prime minister praised the newly elected head of the Audit Office Irakli Mekvabishvili, describing him as a "high-class professional”.

Kvirikashvili also welcomed the presented project drafted for 2018-2022 and thanked the EU, GIZ, the World Bank and USAID for their support to the Audit Office.

Kvirikashvili said the new strategy would improve the quality of governance in Georgia and make it more transparent.
