The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director Zsuzsanna Jakab has stated in Tbilisi that the country has "significantly progressed” in terms of improving the healthcare system.

Georgia is taking one of the leading positions in the WHO,” Jakab stated, attending the WHO Standing Committee meeting in the capital of Georgia.

Georgia’s Health Minister David Sergeenko said that the first part of the assembly meeting was dedicated to the presentation of Georgia’s health system, while the second section would be about the newly confirmed action plan of the WHO.

The Standing Committee of the Regional Committee (SCRC), a subcommittee of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, comprises representatives of 12 countries, with each member elected by the Regional Committee to serve for 3 years.

For the first time this year, at the 67th session of the WHO European regional committee, Georgia was elected as a WHO European regional Standing Committee head.

The position is a big opportunity for the country to actively participate in regional, healthcare issues and the decision-making process,” Georgia’s Health Ministry announced.

Within the ongoing meeting in Tbilisi, Georgia and the European regional office of the WHO will sign a 2018-2019 Biennial Collaborative Agreement, envisaging the priorities for the next two years.
