Georgian officer killed in anti-terror operation in Tbilisi buried today

The Georgian officer who died in an anti-terror operation earlier this week has been buried in a poignant funeral service in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.

Hundreds of mourners including government officials attended the funeral of Ivane Goloshvili from the Georgian Special Operations Forces at Saint George’s Cathedral in the centre of Tbilisi.

After the funeral Goloshvili was buried at Mukhadgverdi Brother’s cemetery.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Defense Minister Levan Izoria, Head of State Security Service Vakhtang Gomelauri, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze and other top officials attended the funeral ceremony.

The State Security Service of Georgia carried out a 22-hour special operation in Tbilisi to arrest individuals who are not Georgian citizens and are alleged members of a terrorist organisation.

Goloshvili was wounded following the shootings. His family will receive 100,000 GEL compensation from the government and 1,000 GEL monthly pension.
