Mariam Khatchvani’s ‘Dede’ awarded prize in Poland, France

Georgian director Mariam Khachvani has triumphed with her new feature film 'Dede' in Poland and France.

While she received Best Director’s award at the Tofifest Film Festival in Poland, Khachvani’s new feature film received prix du public at Festival Cinemed in France.

In 'Dede', Khatchvani camera follows Dina, a young woman in Georgia’s remote, mountainous Svaneti province governed by strict customs.

The film features local Svanuri language throughout its scenes shot in Ushguli, a community of highland villages where film-maker Khachvani was born.
