Singer Anita Rachvelishvili nominated for International Opera Awards

Acclaimed Georgian opera singer Anita Rachvelishvili has been nominated among some of the most famous international performers for a top prize of the prestigious 2017 International Opera Awards.
Rachvelishvili has been selected among globally recognised stars including Anna Netrebko, Stephanie d’Oustrac and Maria Bengtsson for the Female Singer category of the annual contest launched in 2012.
The official ceremony for revealing winners will be held at the London Coliseum on May 7, with the occasion scheduled to be accompanied by performances from artists including Welsh soprano Rhian Lois and American tenor Bryan Hymel.

The nominees of the competition will be judges by an international jury team consisting of opera professionals led by Opera magazine editor John Allison.
Featuring nominations for over a dozen categories, the event will single out some of the most successful and fascinating opera artists, directors and companies worldwide.
Rachvelishvili’s nomination for the prestigious award follows her successful appearances across the world over the last year.
The Georgian mezzo soprano performed at venues including London’s Royal Opera House, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Teatro alla Scala in Milan, performing leading roles including Carmen and Aida in famous classical opera productions.

She was also nominated alongside another Georgian opera artist Nino Surguladze for the 2016 GBOSCAR — The Excellence in Opera awards by the Italian online magazine GBOPERA in March 2016.

The International Opera Awards was founded by British entrepreneur Harry Hyman to "celebrate an exceptional art form” and recognise the "talented and dedicated individuals and organisations who make it happen”.
The patrons of the awards include English baritone Thomas Allen and Spanish tenor Placido Domingo.
