A wildfire in the Tsagveri forest in south-central Georgia has been extinguished, but the firefighters are staying to monitor the site.
Tsagveri is part of Borjomi Gorge, where a massive forest fire has happened earlier in August, too.

Several hundreds of people have been engaged in the firefighting operation including:
- 800 representatives of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s special tasks groups
- 600 emergency servicemen, firefighters and rescuers.
Moreover, two Georgian, one Azerbaijani and one Turkish helicopters have been battling the blaze for over a week.

An unusually high number of wildfires occurred in Georgian forests this summer. The largest one was in Borjomi Gorge that burnt for seven days before being put out in late August.
An investigation is underway to find out the causes of frequent forest fires in Georgia this year.

A massive forest fire that broke out a week ago in Georgia’s Borjomi Gorge has been extinguished, but the special headquarters that was set up upon the Prime Minister’s order to handle the disaster remains in the gorge to follow the developments.
The Georgian Armed Forces have joined firefighting efforts in Georgia’s Borjomi Gorge where a massive forest fire broke out five days ago and is still burning.
A commission was set up upon the initiative of the Environment Ministry and involved the country’s leading nature experts to assess the situation and develop a plan of forest restoration.
The Georgian Environment Ministry plans to design a monitoring and warning system for forest fires across Georgia that will give early notice of an impending disaster. Negotiations with foreign donors and experts have already launched.
A fire has broken out in the forest of Chailuri in Kakheti region in eastern Georgia earlier today, which according to the Georgia’s Interior Ministry’s Emergency Service has been localised. Fire-fighters who immediately went to deal with the fire have taken care to prevent the further escalation.
A fire broke out in an apartment complex in the central district of Vake in Tbilisi last night. The population living in the building was safely evacuated. The fire had spread across some 70 square meters in the building. The municipal government will provide the families with temporary accommodation.
