Grape harvest 2017: Farmers in Kakheti generate 32.2m GEL

Grape growers in Georgia’s eastern Kakheti region are continuing to reap the benefits of a bumper harvest.

So far this season farmers have earned 32.2 million GEL by selling about 29,700 tonnes of grapes, announced the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Local growers have processed the following grape varieties:

  • Saperavi – 14,800 tonnes
  • Rkatsiteli - 12,000 tonnes
  • Kakhuri Mtsvane – 1,200 tonnes

To date most grapes were processed in Kakheti’s Kvareli municipality – 11,200 tonnes.

Followed by:

  • Sighnaghi – 6,000 tonnes
  • Gurjaani – 4,500 tonnes
  • Telavi – 3,800 tonnes
  • Dedoplistskaro – 2,100 tonnes
  • Lagodekhi – 866 tonnes
  • Akhmeta – 820 tonnes
  • Sagarejo – 396 tonnes

In Kakheti 157 wine producing companies were registered at a special grape harvest coordination centre, of which 79 companies are involved in grape processing process, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.
