Tbilisi: “Russia’s actions worsen already hard humanitarian situation in occupied regions”

Tbilisi has denounced the latest actions of Russia that saw the illegal process of the so-called borderisation continue in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry released a statement criticising the Russian forces for erecting barbed-wire fences near the Georgian villages of Khurcha and Shamgona near the so-called border between the breakaway Abkhazia region and the rest of Georgia.

The statement said that in April of this year, the Russian occupants erected wood posts in this area and now they installed barbed wire on them. The statement added the length of the new barbed-wire fence is about 900 metres.

The Ministry said that the Russian occupational regime aims to isolate people living in Abkhazia and purposefully prevents them from having any humanitarian contacts with the rest of Georgia and the world.

"These actions of the Russian occupation forces blatantly infringes the fundamental human rights of the local residents, violates their rights to free movement and access to education and healthcare, which further worsens already hard humanitarian situation in the region”, the statement read.

Tbilisi once again called Russia to withdraw its forces from Georgia and the occupation of the country.

It also urged the international society to properly react to the latest actions of Russia, which are directed at factual annexation of the sovereign state.
