One of the world's largest privately held port operators, SSA Marine will operate Georgia’s future port in Anaklia, a Black Sea city near Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region.
The Agreement signed today emphasised that the SSA Marine will operate the container terminal of Georgia’s Anaklia Black Sea Port for a 20 year period of time.
Together with our American partners we are now able to open the marine gate of Georgia and mark Anaklia on the world map, make it the most important logistic hub. Investment from the largest US companies such as SSA Marine in Georgia is strategical and most important precedent for our country,” said founder of Anaklia Development Consortium, Mamuka Khazaradze.
The Anaklia Development Consortium, which is responsible for building the largest port in Georgia, will invest $2.5 billion in the multi - functional port project.
Work on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project began before the end of 2016 and will be completed by 2020.

The Anaklia Deep Sea Port development will be separated into nine phases. At the end of the final phase the Anaklia Deep Sea Port must be able to handle 100 million tonnes of cargo per year.
Spread over 400 hectares and boasting access to a deep sea canyon, the Anaklia Port’s mission is to create a new, faster maritime corridor between China and Europe, helping restore the historic Silk Road.

So far the Anaklia Development Consortium has already created the general development plan for the port and its preliminary design. The Consortium has conducted over 50 land and sea ecological and engineering researches for construction activities in different directions.
Besides the Anaklia Deep Sea Port a city Anaklia and special economic zone will also be developed at the area.
