Counterfeited Georgian wines were seized from one of the trade networks in Poland.
Thanks to the Georgian National Wine Agency and the National Intellectual Property Centre Sakpatenti Georgian wine produced in Ukraine and sold in Poland was seized from the Polish trade network.
The reason was that the Georgian protected place of origin was indicated in the wine label that was produced in Ukraine. The label was named after ‘Kakheti’, which is a wine producing region of Georgia.
The Directorate General of the European Commission inspected the Polish supermarket network in accordance with the instructions issued for the Ministry of Agriculture and Regional Development of Poland,” said head of Georgian National Wine Agency Giorgi Samanishvili.
It was found that the wine was produced in Ukraine and was sold by using the appellations of origin of Georgian place ‘Kakheti’. Imitated Georgian wines were removed from the trading network,” he added.
