Georgian President, Venice Commission President discuss constitutional amendments

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili had a phone conversation with the President of Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio over the ongoing constitutional reforms in Georgia today.

President Margvelasvili thanked Buquicchio and the entire Venice Commission delegation for their active participation in the discussions of the constitutional amendments, contribution to the improvement of the document and interesting recommendations.

Georgian State Constitutional Commission decided last year to review the current constitution by the end of April 2017, which has been followed by public discussions over the proposed changes. At the same time, President Margvelashvili encouraged citizens to voice their opinion on proposed amendments to the current constitution.

The Venice Commission will examine, with a view to adoption, the draft opinion over the Georgian state constitution at a plenary session scheduled on June 16-17.
