Seventy-nine days on from the introduction of the visa-free regime between Georgia and European Union (EU) preliminary data is now rolling in.

Between March 28 and today, more than 20,000 citizens of Georgia have travelled visa-free in Schengen area and only a handful of people were denied entry at the border.

Georgian State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Victor Dolidze talked about these numbers today.

"We will have no three-month statistics until the end of June, but so far I only can say positive things about the numbers we have today”, Dolidze said.

He added that there were only a few people who were denied entry and the reason of such decisions were "technical circumstances” and improper documentation.

"The campaign we ran to raise awareness of the visa-free travel regulations turned out to be successful”, Dolidze said.

The regulation lifting visa requirements for Georgians entered into effect on March 28.
