From today Georgia’s obligations taken through the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change officially comes into play, which means Georgia must take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other negative influences on the nature.

The Paris agreement commits Georgia and 194 other countries to keeping rising global temperatures below 2C above pre-industrial levels and endeavour to limit them even more, to 1.5C.

Based on the deal the countries agreed to limit the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by human activity to the same levels that trees, soil and oceans can absorb naturally, beginning at some point between 2050 and 2100.

The deal envisages reviewing each country's contribution to cutting emissions every five years and enabling rich countries to financially help poorer nations to adapt to climate change and use renewable energy.

Georgia plans to gradually reduce the greenhouse gasses emissions from different economic sectors until 2030 by 15-20percent, support climate-friendly technologies, reduce the risks of catastrophes and protect the people living at high risk due to environmental conditions.
