The Mayor’s Office of Tbilisi has announced they intend to introduce a simplified payment system in all municipal transport of the capital city starting this summer.

The new system will allow for the payment of transport fees by using all bank cards issued in Georgia.

The Mayor’s Office states the innovation will make it easier both for locals and tourists to use municipal transport.

A virtual payment system via mobile telephones will also be available.

For now special cards called Metromani, which cost a one-time fee of 2 GEL and can then be used to load more money, are issued for municipal transport.

The Mayor’s Office also plans to renew the municipal transport in the near future.
