Georgia is celebrating the 26th anniversary of its independence from the Soviet Union today.

The holiday featured a wide range of cultural, educational and entertainment activities all over the country.

Here is a collection of some of the most memorable pictures from Georgia’s 26th Independence Day.

This picture is a proof that military vehicles are kids' favourite toys. And maybe that's the best use for such things? Like, tanks are to entertain children, not to scare them. Photo source: Georgia's Defence Ministry.

Today's activities were themed after the anniversary of the birth of the 12th century poet Shota Rustaveli who penned the iconic poem The Knight in the Panther’s Skin. Photo source: Tbilisi City Hall.

Thousands of Georgians and international guests have already appeared at the Rustaveli Ave throughout the day today but the celebrations are not over yet. Festivities will last until late this evening to be crowned by the gala concert at Rose Square at 21:00. Photo source: Tbilisi City Hall.
