Georgia is taking actions to build an alternative highway that will bypass the capital Tbilisi to relieve traffic congestion in the city.

The architectural design development for the 55-kilometer Tbilisi bypass and the 28-kilometer Natakhtari-Zhinvali highway section has launched, said Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili at today's Government meeting.

It will also include the beginning of the highway leading to the Mleta-Kobi road section, which is a very important project for the full implementation of the country's transit function,” said the PM.

The design development process will be finalised in 15 months, followed by construction work.

Today many interesting projects are in the design development phase. As you know, this year we significantly increased infrastructural expenses, and next year we will double last year's numbers, which will bring about a tremendous effect in terms of economic growth and employment,” said Kvirikashvili.

The PM promised many construction projects will launch simultaneously in the summer of 2018, "which will have a serious, positive impact on our country's economic development”.
