The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has released a special video on its webpage about the Alliance’s growing cooperation with Georgia and of Georgia’s important role in international peacekeeping missions.

The video, titled Strengthening Georgia’s Defence was aired yesterday and highlighted Georgia’s unwavering commitment to integrate into the Euro-Atlantic space. The video stressed the importance of the partnership between Georgia and NATO.

See the video below.

Georgians have been fighting and dying with coalition forces for years now in Iraq and Afghanistan and they have made a very clear commitment to move closer to NATO and towards Euro-Atlantic integration, and I think the very least we can do is to help them in this decision,” said Yash Holbrook, deputy head of the NATO core team.

The video stressed with two sovereign territories under foreign occupation and an increasing threat from the south, the security situation in Georgia and the region as a whole, was unstable.

The video stated Georgia might not become a NATO member in the near future but the Alliance had and would continue to invest heavily to improve Georgia’s self defence capabilities. The video went on to talk about the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package of support, which contained 13 projects designed to improve Georgia’s defences.

Some tackle areas such as cyber defence and strategic communications, while others [focus on] the Defence Institution Building School and provides development training within the security sector. But in terms of practical skills on the battlefield, the Joint Training and Evaluation Centre, or JTEC, is perhaps the most tangible,” the video said.

Georgian military officials and the country’s Defence Minister Tinatin Khidasheli were depicted in the video, and all of whom stressed the importance of international support for Georgia to become a part of NATO and other Euro-Atlantic structures.
