A French company that designs and builds electrical systems for aerospace, defence and world security markets is helping improve Georgia’s air navigation to better serve airlines that fly into and out of Georgia.

Today Paris-based Thales signed a €2 million Radar System Maintenance deal with Georgia’s air navigation service provider Sakaeronavigatsia to bring its aviation radar systems in line with international standards.

The deal stressed the French company was obliged to provide maintenance checks of three aviation radars in Georgia over the next five years.

Thales experts must also come to Georgia once a year to technically inspect the radars and prepare an annual report based on their inspection, outlined the deal.

Staff at Sakaeronavigatsia will also benefit from the deal; employees will be able to improve their theoretical and practical skills thanks to trainings provided by Thales in France.

The systems produced by Thales are the most reliable in the air traffic control area,” said Sakaeronavigatsia director general Gocha Mezvrishvili.

More than 180 countries used Thales navigation systems all over the world and Georgia would soon benefit from its global experience, he added.

Mezvrishvili said support from Thales will see Sakaeronavigatsia’s radar systems comply with international standards and recommendations, "which in turn will allow our company to serve airlines more effectively”.
