Elections 2016: Tomorrow final day to present party lists

Political parties have until 6pm tomorrow to present the Central Election Commission (CEC) with their party lists if they wish to take part in the October 8  Parliamentary Elections.

More than 3.5 million people are registered to vote in the October 8 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia.

Meanwhile once the party lists are presented to the CEC, some officials will have to step down from their roles as their naming on the list was a conflict of interest with their current role.

According to Georgia’s Election Code, the officials required to step down ahead of their participation in the elections are: 

  • Georgia’s President
  • Georgia’s Ministers (excluding the Prime Minister)
  • Ministers of the Autonomous Republics 
  • The leaders and deputies of Governmental and state institutions
  • Members of the National Security Council
  • Members of Georgia’s National Bank Council and Financial Supervisory Agency
  • Head of the State Audit Agency and the agency’s deputies
  • Governors and their deputies, heads of Sakrebulo, Mayors
  • Officers of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Defence Ministry, Intelligence Service and State Security Service
  • Judges, the Public Defender and the Ombudsman’s deputy
  • The President’s advisers
  • Members of the High Council of Justice
  • Head of the Public Service Bureau and the agency’s deputies
  • Prosecutors, deputy prosecutors, assistant prosecutors and investigators
  • Members of the National Communication Commission 
  • Members of the National Commission of Georgia’s Energy and Water Provision  

According to the CEC, 3,510,514 voters were registered to vote in next month’s elections. 

Thirty-one election subjects including 25 political parties and six election blocs will compete in the Parliamentary Elections.
