Successful Georgian students who study at universities or other tertiary institutions in capital Tbilisi but struggle to afford accommodation will benefit from a free student housing initiative.
A brand new high standard dormitory, capable of housing 320 people, will open in several months at Lisi Lake near Tbilisi’s Saburtalo district.
The complex included three buildings and met top European student housing standards, said Deputy Head of the Governmental Administration Nino Kobakhidze.

The dormitory was built in 13 months following the initiative of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
"It was built using state funds to give students who come from the regions and are financially vulnerable but study well, a place so they don’t have to worry about where to live,” Kobakhidze said.
Twenty of the dorm rooms have been adapted to fit the needs of people with disabilities.
The complex also had a dining room, a library, a computer room, stadium and gym.

Most of Georgia’s prestigious universities are located in capital Tbilisi. Students from other parts of the country need to rent a room if they want to study in the city.
Authorities believed the new dormitory facility would give students who came from poor families a better chance at pursuing a higher education in the capital city.
