Corn Island wins jury prize at film festival in Morocco

Georgian movie Corn Island was praised by the jury at the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival in Morocco.

Georgian Oscar-nominated movie Corn Island (Simindis Kundzuli) has gained further international recognition at an international film festival in Morocco.

Corn Island, a Georgian-French cooperation directed by George Ovashvili, was awarded the special jury prize at the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival in Morocco, which was held from March 28 to April 4.

The Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival's prize is 31th award the Corn Island  film has received since its release last year. 

Corn Island is an almost wordless story about an aging farmer and his granddaughter pitted against nature and a lingering ethnic conflict.

The film was selected into the shortlist of nine films for the Best Foreign Language film in the 2015 Academy Awards. Since its release the film has been honoured at a number of prestigious international film festivals.
