A Georgian professional skier has gained a podium finish at an international female’s Giant Slalom competition in Austria.

Nino Tsiklauri, Georgia’s national Alpine Skiing team member, won a bronze medal at the Women’s Giant Slalom race in Reiteralm, Austria, with a time of 55.47 seconds and 54.77 seconds for her first and second runs respectively.

The competition results will go towards her overall International Ski Federation (FIS) points. This result gives Tsiklauri the opportunity to optimise her overall points in the FIS 2014/2015 list.

The Giant Slalom gold medal went to Italy’s Francesca Polentarutti, while her Italian teammate Martina Scussel won the silver medal. The scores were determined after two runs on the Austrian slopes.

A total of 83 athletes from 11 countries competed in the Women’s Giant Slalom event at the Austrian ski resort of Reiteralm.

For Tsiklauri, who was the Georgian flag bearer at the last Olympic Games in Sochi, this was her second bronze medal on the international arena since her transition from the junior category to the professional open competition.

Nino shared her impressions exclusively with Agenda.ge after she attended her first Olympics in the blog called "My Olympic race”.

"When we arrived in the mountain Village, where all the athletes were living together, I was little scared to see some of the same things I saw on the internet ahead of the competition - two toilets in one room and other bizarre things like this, but…” she wrote about the very first time at the Olympic Village.
