Georgia is preparing to enforce stricter controls of the country’s fuel industry to ensure fuels imported and made in the country are high quality and meet tough new standards

Today it was revealed documents had been written to outline amendments to the Administrative Code of Georgia, which involved imposing a fine on people who imported, sold or produced low quality petrol and diesel fuel in the country.

If the composition of the fuel does not meet high quality standards, the offender will be slapped with a fine, if amendments to the law are approved.

The Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia initiated draft amendments to the Administrative Code and applied to Parliament for further discussions and approval today. According to the amendments a new Article will be added to the Administrative Code outlining the changes.

One of the new rules stated those who imported low quality petrol or diesel in Georgia will be fined 10,000 GEL.

The same amendments prohibited producing low quality petrol and diesel on Georgian territory. If this was not adhered to, the offending person will be fined 9,000 GEL.

Meanwhile, a person found to keep or supply petrol and diesel which do not meet quality standards, could be fined 8,000 GEL.
