Filling stations will be inspected in Georgia to determine the quality of fuel they sell and to protect consumers.
In order to determine the lead quantity in the fuel employees of the Environment Protection Supervision Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection will inspect the stations without advance notice and collect about 240 fuel samples.
The Environment Protection Supervision Department will check whether the quality of fuel is in line with current legislation in the field.
In Georgia the import of fuel which fails to meet mandatory standards is subject to fines of up to 10,000 GEL, while the sale of such fuel is subject to fines of 8,000 GEL.
Around 80 filling stations around Georgia will be inspected in Georgia in November to determine the quality of fuel they sell, Neli Korkotadze, deputy head of the Environment Protection Supervision Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment stated today.
Georgia is preparing to enforce stricter controls of the country’s fuel industry to ensure fuels imported and made in the country are high quality and meet tough new standards.
The lead quantity in fuel at filling stations in Georgia is in accordance with the quality norms defined by the Georgian government's decree, announces the Environment Protection Supervision Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment Protection.
Over a third of fuel samples taken at stations across Georgia have had irregularities revealed in them, with the Department of Environmental Supervision launching a wider inspection in response.
