Georgia and Azerbaijan are deepening bilateral transport relations and discussing ways to increase the competitiveness of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.

For this purpose, Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitry Kumsishvili visited Azerbaijan and met his Azerbaijani counterpart Shahin Mustafayev today.

At the meeting the two officials also spoke about the issues related to trade and transit between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani side provided information about the Coordinating Council, which was created following an order of Azerbaijan’s president. The Coordinating Council aimed to ensure all the technical problems, which hindered cargo transportation through the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor, through Azerbaijani territory, were solved effectively.

Kumsishvili said Georgia welcomed the initiative and was also ready to create a similar council.

Additionally, two sides spoke about the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project and the Viking Container Train project, which spanned from Lithuania through Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and Turkey that connected the Baltic and Black Seas via railway.
