Georgia’s historic, enduring bonds with Europe is the focus of a month-long exhibition in the country’s Eastern town Sighnaghi, which starts today.

Dozens of historical photographs showing Georgia’s ties with Europe will feature in the Enduring Bondsexhibition, held at the Sighnaghi Museum in celebration of European Union (EU) Week of Culture in Georgia.

The photos depict political and cultural relations between Georgia and Europe throughout history.

Organised by the EU Delegation to Georgia, Let’s Meet Europe Project, the National Archives of Georgia and the Georgian National Museum, the event will feature materials that "tell the human stories of people who supported the development of the country in the context of European values,” exhibition organisers said.

Some of the photos tell stories of Georgia’s relations with Europe during the country’s life under the Tsarist Russian rule, the brief independence of the Georgian Democratic Republic from 1918-1921 and the subsequent 70-year Soviet regime.

Exhibition materials were obtained from the National Archives of Georgia and highlight the "desire for friendship and collaboration with other European countries” over the eras, organisers said while announcing the exhibition.

The Enduring Bonds exhibition will from today until December 4.
