“Germany is a strong, reliable partner”, says Georgia’s Foreign Minister

Georgia is looking to enhance its relationship with Germany and tighten bilateral ties in the fields of trade, economy, culture and education.

In the framework of a two-day official visit to Germany, Georgia’s Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvrikashvili met German experts and said: "I see Germany as a strong, reliable partner for Georgia”.

Today’s meeting involved leaders of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Germany’s Science and Political Foundation. At the meeting Kvirikahsvili stressed Georgia wished to broaden the spectrum of "historical cooperation” with Germany. 

We want to make relations closer in the fields of economy, culture and education. We also wish to see more German companies in Georgia,” Kvirikahsvili added.

The Minister emphasized Georgia’s devout efforts to join the Euro-Atlantic space and the importance of Germany’s support in this regard. 

Tomorrow, on the last day of his business trip, Kvirikashvili was scheduled to meet with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier before returning home.

On another note, Germany’s Special Representative to Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, Andreas Peschke, arrived in Georgia for a regional visit that also included Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Today Peschke’s first meeting took place in Georgia’s Foreign Ministry with Deputy Foreign Minister Davit Jalaghania. There the officials discussed a wide-range of issues, ranging from Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations to developing closer cooperation in the trade-economic field.

The German envoy confirmed his country’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed Germany was ready to deepen its business partnership with Georgia. 

Peschke also revealed Germany supported Georgia’s as it strived towards the Euro-Atlantic space. 

In return, Georgia’s Deputy Defence Minister informed his German guest about the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, Georgia’s ambitions for international integration and the country’s vision of current world developments.
