Get out your jackets and put on your gloves because winter is coming early to Georgia.

Snowboarders, skiers and winter enthusiasts across Georgia are celebrating after the country’s winter resorts announced the earliest winter season start in the last 20 years.

The winter season will open on December 5 at Goderdzi - the newest of Georgia’s four winter resorts on the slopes of the mountainous Adjara region.

This will be followed by the opening of Bakuriani and Gudauri ski fields in the country’s east on December 13.

Officials said these dates would mark the earliest beginning of a ski season in the past two decades in Georgia.

The early start of the winter season was made possible by the recent introduction of artificial snow machines at several resorts. The machines will ensure there will be a decent snow base on the ski tracks from the end of November, said an industry expert.

Meanwhile several infrastructural changes will please guests at the Georgian winter resorts this year.

A historic Kokhta cableway will be brought back to life in Bakuriani this winter.

"This will be exciting for Bakuriani as the historic cableway will be reopened,” head of the Mountain Resorts Development Company Sandro Onofrishvili told commersant.ge.

He added the first-ever cinema and several new restaurants would also open in Bakuriani.

As for Gudauri, Onofrishvili said world leading companies were working together with Georgia’s Economy Ministry to create a Gudauri Development Plan by April 2016; this plan would transform Gudauri into a European-standard winter resort in the coming years.
