Poignant photos depicting the Russian-Georgian war are on display in Tbilisi as the country marks the seventh anniversary of the short but violent war.

The country's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili visited the exhibition today, which included images from six Georgian photographers, at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia. The exhibition was dedicated to the seventh anniversary of   the Russian-Georgian war of 2008.

The exhibition was organised by local photographer Giorgi Abdaladze and reflected the disaster of the war captured from the front lines.

At the event Garibashvili thanked the photographers for their patriotic and professional devoutness and stressed that through the photos the world learnt about the conflict and some of the most tragic days in Georgia's history.

"You are heroes. Together with our soldiers and police officers you stood in the heart of the battlefield and captured the war in photos, putting your lives at risk,” said Garibashvili.

The Georgian official again paid tribute to those who died in the battle and spoke about the responsibility of his Government.

"We should do our utmost to avoid conflicts and any types of escalations. We are doing all we can to guarantee peace and security for all our people,” he said.
