Georgia’s capital city has been granted an additional 44 million GEL from the state budget to cover increasing costs related to the Tbilisi flood and the upcoming European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).

A spokesperson from Tbilisi City Hall said Georgia’s capital city "required additional funding” to cover the cost of the flood damage and the EYOF, which will see more than 4,000 young athletes from 49 European countries come to Georgia and participate in the July 26-August 1 competition.

The spokesperson confirmed this request had been approved and the Tbilisi 2015 budget had increased by 44 million GEL.

This year the Tbilisi municipal budget will use14 million GEL to finance flood-affected families – this amount is 0.3 percent of the city’s budget.

Furthermore, an addition 13 million GEL has been allocated to the Tbilisi budget to cover the cost of remaining preparatory works for the EYOF event.

As well as this, Tbilisi City Hall will borrow 18 million GEL from the Development Fund and donor organisations to conduct road repairing works in the capital city.

The spokesperson said the capital city’s main financial document will be discussed today at a Financial Committee meeting.
