A landslide has blocked the road that connects Georgia’s capital Tbilisi to nearby summer resort areas Tskneti and Betania.
This evening a large rock and some land fell in Bagebi in the outskirts of Tbilisi’s Vake district, and into the valley, causing potential for the river to dam and flood.
Near Bagebi ravine is an electricity substation and several buildings. If the river swells, it will flood the substation and nearby buildings.
Georgia’s Deputy Environment Minsiter Temur Murghulia said a plan of action will be created in the coming hours to avoid the river from swelling. A special team will execute the plan, he said.
The latest landslide was smaller than the landslide which caused major flooding in Tbilisi on Saturday night but still caused damage to some houses and back yards.
Currently volunteers are cleaning the ravine from the fallen rock pieces.
