German Ambassador: "Georgia was the most interesting place where I've worked"

German Ambassador in Georgia Ortwin Hennig has a farewell meeting with Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

"Georgia was the most interesting place where I've worked during my career,” said Ambassador of Germany in Georgia Ortwin Hennig to the Prime Minister of Georgia while reviewing his five-year tenure. 

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili hosted the German Ambassador for a farewell meeting at the Government’s Administration building today.

Hennig, who has been the Ambassador of Germany in Georgia since 2010, has completed his five-year term of duty in Georgia.

"Everyone knows that Georgia is a very beautiful country but the most important thing is is how friendly Georgian people are,” Hennig said at the meeting, announced the Prime Ministers press office.

Garibashvili thanked the German envoy for his friendship and contribution to deepening the relations between the two countries.

Before coming to Georgia Ambassador Hennig was a vice president at EastWest Institute (EWI) until July 2009 where he was instrumental in establishing EWI's Preventive Diplomacy Initiatives.

Ortwin is a distinguished alumnus of the Free University of Berlin and the London School of Economics where he concentrated on Political Science. As an alumnus of the NATO Defence College in Rome, Ortwin specialised in arms control and security policy matters.

During his career Ortwin also held diplomatic posts in Afghanistan and Russia, and was part of the German Representation to the European Commission and the OSCE in Vienna.
