Representatives of the upcoming Youth Olympic Games have met with the country’s leader and inspected the facilities to be used in the July 2015 international festival, where more than 4,000 athletes from 49 countries are expected to participate.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili led a session in support of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) "Tbilisi 2015" at the national Olympic Committee office today.

Tbilisi are preparing to host the 13th European Youth Olympic Festival in July, 2015.

The EYOF is a biennial multi-sport event for youth athletes from 48 member countries who are part of European Olympic Committees.

Garibashvili showed his appreciation to representatives of the European Olympic Committee Coordination Commission for visiting Tbilisi and listened to their recommendations about Georgia’s ongoing infrastructure projects in preparation for the competition.

"We will have the best Olympic village in Georgia," said the Coordination Commission chair Jozef Liba.

This is the EYOF representatives’ fourth visit to Georgia. They emphasized the progress made and said the continuing progress was "growing and visible”.

Commission chairman Liba thanked Garibashvili for being actively engaged in the Youth Olympic preparation process and his firm cooperation with the Coordination Commission.

"The Youth Olympic Festival is a very important event for our country, as such a large-scale event has not yet been conducted here,” Garibashvili said.

"I am actively involved in the organizational issues and control the ongoing preparations. They expressed their satisfaction concerning the preparation for the Olympics," he said.

An earlier decision by the 39th General Assembly of European Olympic Committees revealed Tbilisi would host the 13th European Youth Olympic Festival in July 2015.

The EYOF program will include nine sports: judo, tennis, artistic gymnastics, cycle racing, track and field athletics, swimming, volleyball, handball and basketball.

More than 4,000 athletes from 49 European countries will descend on Tbilisi to participate in the Youth Olympic Festival next July.
