Georgian freestyle wrestler Vladimer Khinchegashvili has won the 2014 European Championship currently taking place in Vantaa, Finland.

Khinchegashvili (57kg) scored top honours with a single-leg attack and drop to the back for a 5-1 triumph in the final against former two-time European champion 35-year-old veteran Ghenadi Tublea of Montenegro.

Khinchegahsvili is a silver medal holder from the 2012 London Olympic Games.

At the second day of the competition, the Georgian team had already gained two medals – one gold by Khinchegahsvili and one bronze by Konstantine Khabalashvili (65kg).

Later today, Georgian wrestlers Iakob Makarashvili (74kg) and Davit Modzmanashvili (125kg) are set to get involved in the tournament, which will last until April 6.
