European Parliament delegation:The summoning of Saakashvili will not influence Georgia's European future

Cabrnoch: the summoning of Saakashvili for questioning would have no effect on Georgia’s European future.

The head of the EP delegation Milan Cabrnoch revealed he did not believe the summoning of ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili by Georgian authorities for questioning in multiple criminal investigations, would have any effect on Georgia’s European future.

Milan Cabrnoch, who is also the chair of EU–Georgia Parliament Cooperation Committee, said: "I do not think this fact will influence Georgia’s European future,” and the matter would be discussed at meetings with local officials.

A group of European officials representing the European Union’s member states have arrived in Tbilisi to attend the 16th meeting of the EU- Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

The European Parliament (EP) delegation arrived in the Georgian capital last night ahead of tomorrow’s event.

The EP representatives are also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with local high officials and civic society members tomorrow.

The EP delegation are scheduled to meet EU Ambassador to Georgia Philip Dimitrov, the country’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, with the main issue discussed being Georgia’s future relations with the EU.

The European Parliament is the only directly-elected EU body and one of the largest democratic assemblies in the world and its 766 members represent the EU’s 500 million citizens.
