A football game between two rival Georgian teams was cancelled after a mid-match fight that saw about a dozen arrested, others injured, including players.
Football fans clashed at yesterday’s championship game between Kutaisi’s "Torpedo” team and Tbilisi’s "Dinamo” team, held at Kutaisi stadium.
The fight started during the game when the local team was losing 2-0. Fans began to throw stones at the football players, which lead to a fight between "Torpedo” and "Dinamo” supporters.
Some "Dinamo” football players were also attacked and a handful received minor injuries in the attack. The injured players and fans received first aid at the stadium.
Dinamo fan club members were evacuated from the field with a police escort.
At least ten people were arrested following the fight, reported the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Georgian Football Federation President Zviad Sichinava said the fight was initiated by "Torpedo” Kutaisi fans. The Federation are now discussion whether to impose sanctions on "Torpedo”.
Meanwhile the match was cancelled following the fight.
