Georgian military personnel wounded in battle are ready to take on their next opponents in the upcoming Paralympic World Championships.
The servicemen, who were injured during Georgia’ battle for territory integrity or the ISAF mission in Afghanistan, have took part in a two-week intensive training camp ahead of this month’s international competition.
From this group, 13 were selected to compete in the ten-day competition, held in San Diego, California from March 3. They will travel to the United States tomorrow (March 2).
The Paralympic World Championships are a major international multi-sport event, involving athletes with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, including mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, cerebral palsy and more.
The Georgian athletes have prepared for the upcoming competition in swimming, shooting and archery.
Military injured in the various conflicts throughout the world will compete in the competition alongside athletes who were born with disabilities.
Meanwhile other disabled athletes are in Sochi to compete in the Paralympic Games.
The winter and summer Paralympic Games have been held since the 1988 summer Games in Seoul, South Korea. The competition is held immediately following the respective Olympic Games.
